4 Reasons why your Mum is as Inspirational as Princess Diana

When asked to think of someone that inspires you this Mother’s Day, the first person that pops into your mind might be your favourite celebrity, sporting star, or singer. But have you ever asked yourself why these people inspire you? And have you ever thought about looking a little closer to home?

Most of us will look to our mothers for inspiration, sometimes without even realising, because Mums can be an inspiration to us regardless of occupation, status, or wealth, and we can almost guarantee that at some point your mum has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Are we right?

One of the most inspirational mums of all time, Princess Diana, continues to be remembered fondly for her many years of dedicated service to those less fortunate, but despite her countless years of charity work, it could be argued that Princess Diana’s greatest achievement, is her two sons.

Although Princess Diana had some truly amazing qualities, most of these seem to come quite naturally to mothers, so we picked four of the best reasons why our mums can be just as inspirational as the Queen of hearts herself.

1. Mums are compassionate

Princess Diana had compassion, and she truly cared for those who were suffering and wanted to help give back, something that she proved with her many years of charity work carried out throughout her lifetime.

How many times has you mum been a shoulder to cry on, or has been there when you’ve felt low? Mums never stop caring about how you are feeling and what you are doing. It’s constant and unwavering.

2. Mums are strong

Princess Diana had strength. The Princess was not one to follow the rules that came with being a Royal; she showed affection to her children even though it was not the ‘done thing.’ She rebelled the ‘stiff upper lip’ persona, and instead taught her boys that it was okay to show their emotions.

How many times has your mum fought your corner and been there beside you like rock through a difficult time in your life? The unbelievable strength of women is clear, and mums always surprise us with what they’re capable of, especially when it comes to you.

3. Mums are brave

Diana was also brave; it takes true courage to walk through a minefield in order to raise awareness of land mines. She helped stop innocent people becoming amputees.

So maybe your mum hasn’t walked through a minefield, but think back to the many times that you’ve been ill or injured, and how much it hurts to see your child in pain. Being there to support you every step of the way, without showing how upset you really, is truly brave. No matter what she has to face, mums are always right there to roll up her sleeves and be the person you need her to be.

4. Mums are stylish

Finally, Princess Diana loved a wardrobe clear out, selling all of her old clothes and donating the money that she raised to charity. She had some of the most iconic outfits of anyone in the public eye, then or now, and always made headlines with her show stopping dresses.

How many times have you raided your mum’s wardrobe, or wanted that top that she didn’t want any more? We all have mums that have a few awesome pieces of clothing in their wardrobe that we just can’t wait to get our hands on, and and we all borrow our mums clothes at some point. After all, we learn a lot about style from our mums.

Mums don’t need to have changed the world’s opinions on AIDS, have been a national sweetheart, or even given birth to a Prince, simply the way that she inspired her children to live their lives and the lessons that she passed on, is just as commendable.

So this Mother’s Day, don’t forget to let your mum know how much she inspires you, and that no matter how caught up you get in your own life, you will always be thankful for all that she’s done, and for all that she’ll continue to do. Remember, the greatest gift you can give your mum this Mother’s Day, is love. Gushy, we know. Oh, and flowers, wine and chocolates never goes a miss, plus we’re giving mums a free glass of Laurent-Perrier this Mother’s Day when you eat with us.

Simply because we think mums are awesome.
